We all had breakfast together at Freeman’s Little New York and met up with Syd’s comedy friends from the Island. Then Jane, Kathy and I continued on and visited my cousins in Springhill then went on to PEI via the Confederation Bridge. Stayed in our Airbnb in Oyster Bed Bridge, went to dinner at Pedro’s Island Eatery in N. Rustico. Amazing food.

Now off to PEI

North Rustico

May 11
Left our Airbnb and headed to N. Rustico and our search led us to Dalvay By the Sea (built in 1865) and property. Had a wonderful breakfast and excellent coffee. Then we went to the Covehead Lighthouse and wandered the beach with red sands. Then we went to Anne of Greens Gables Historic site and while we were there we had a Beavertail dessert. Then from there we went to Cavendish beach boardwalk. We then drove to Charlottetown, stayed a bit out of the downtown area at the Holiday Inn Express. Toured Charlottetown by foot through the Victoria Row. Amazing churches and cathedrals everywhere.

Around Charlottetown

May 13
Drove from Charlottetown along the east coast of Kings County. Went to Point Prim lighthouse. Checked into our hotel in Cardigan near Georgetown, East PEI at Rodd Brudenell. Then drove a few minutes to Georgetown (capital of Kings County) and were surprised at its tiny size. Went back to the hotel and had dinner at the Hole 19 clubhouse restaurant. Back at our room we sat on the patio and had wine and drinks.

Point Prim Lighthouse

Point Prim Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse on Prince Edward Island. It is unique, as it is the only round brick lighthouse on PEI and one of three in Canada. It was designed by the architect, Isaac Smith, who also created Province House in Charlottetown, and was built in 1845, by Richard Walsh. Point Prim Lighthouse is 60 feet above the ground and 80 feet above sea level. It offers spectacular views of the Northumberland Strait.

Wood Islands Ferry back to Nova Scotia

Pictou, Nova Scotia

May 14
Left Cardigan and drove to Montague,
we couldn’t get a decent cup of coffee. At the Wood Islands Ferry terminal we got a decent coffee then got on the ferry. After we docked we went to Pictou for lunch at the Nook and Cranny and had more seafood chowder and fish tacos. Then we made our way to the Halifax
Airport. The Town of Pictou is the birthplace of New Scotland.

Pictou, Nova Scotia, known as the “Birthplace of New Scotland,” is a historic seaside town on the Northumberland Strait. Home to roughly 3,100 residents, it is celebrated for its Scottish heritage, the replica Ship Hector, warm ocean waters, and a vibrant summer waterfront.
