This is a video of our 7 day camping trip to the Caribou in BC. Most of these pictures were shot with my iPhone 4, as well as all of the video.

Cumberland Museum
I work casual on-call for the Cumberland Museum. I worked there the last couple of days and got to meet a lot of interesting people. One thing that comes up over and over is they are so impressed with the rich history of our little village. If you haven’t made it out there this summer then you should go! Take the whole fam damily, some friends, Grandma and Grandpa, cause everyone will love it! And some people enjoy coming by themselves and take their own sweet time going through. I can understand how that would be appealing. The replica coal mine on the lower level is really cool, save it for last. You could pick up a Heritage Walking Tour brochure at the Museum and take a walk through Cumberland when you’re done. So come on out to Dodge, you will be giving yourself a special treat.
Gnarly 2011
This is a video i shot with my iPhone 4 on a gnarly trail near Buckley Bay, BC. We had ridden this trail a few years ago and I loved it! We have been meaning to ride it again and although it took longer than we had hoped, here is the footage.
Cruikshank River Ride
We rode our quads out to the Cruikshank river the other day, there and back was a total of 80 km. What a beautiful site the river is from the bridge. We did a little bush bashing to get to the river and when we got there we were delighted to have the whole sandbar all to ourselves. It would be an awesome swimming hole but Peter says that river is way too cold to swim in. Is it? I’ll find out this summer.

Icelandic Vinarterta
Christmas is just around the corner so my daughters and I did the annual vinarterta baking. Vinarterta is an Icelanedic Christmas cake and I’ve been eating it my whole life. My favourite auntie Evie made it every year and then I took it over with my daughters. They got it streamlined last year with using the parchment paper, saving soooo much time. Each vinarterta has 6 layers of prunes and cakes, and we made 12 tertas. That’s 72 cakes folks! We started at 9:00 am and finished packaging them up around 6:00 pm. It is the absolute best with a cup of tea.

Even my meat n’ potatoes hubby loved this…
Grandma’s iPhone
This Grandma just got an iPhone4 and it’s the best toy ever! For any Grandma who thinks she doesn’t need one, or is afraid she won’t be able to operate it, or whatever the excuse may be, I say do your self a huge favor and go buy one. It is so easy to operate and it will make you a hit with the little ones! My granddaughter is only 3 and I wasn’t sure what apps there would be that she would be able to enjoy. No worries there. First I downloaded a Coloring app. She caught on to that so fast, it was unreal. Then I got her the Diego Music app with color coded music notes. It plays and the user repeats it by pushing the colored circles. Plus there are baby animals in it and she loves it. She also caught on to this one very quickly.
A couple off weekends later Hootie and I went and visited her and of course I brought the iPhone along. Practically right away we were looking at pictures I had taken recently, and watching little videos I had shot at home of the doggies playing and stuff and she looked up at me and said “I love watching videos with you Grandma.” Melted my heart. But it’s not like sitting in front of a tv watching videos (which I am not a huge fan of). It’s really fun and the videos are short and ones that you take yourself so they have special meaning to the both of you. Plus it lets Grandma keep up with the digital age and teaches the young ones at the same time. Or if your grandkids are a bit older they can teach you, Grandma.
Trent river trail
>Here’s a little video of me riding my quad down the Trent river trail. This is absolutely the best time of the year to be out riding. Love it.

So this afternoon my dad is telling me how when he was about 17 years old, he and 2 of his buddies were just driving down the main street in Cumberland, BC about midnight or 1 am. He said the middle of the road had several feet of snow piled up. They were just drinking beer and driving around, no one cared and no one was even around. As much as we are all against that sort of thing nowadays (and I myself would have been mortified to hear of my kids doing anything like that), it was somehow ok then.
